Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ): Implant Replacement Nuremberg

How much does it cost to change a breast implant?

Breast implant replacement requires an individual cost calculation – factors such as the duration of the operation, type of anesthesia, necessary capsulectomy and desired implant shape all play a role. A price can therefore only be given after a personal examination, imaging and a detailed treatment plan. Use the consultation to clarify options and possible additional costs transparently. Typically, an implant replacement is more complex than a breast augmentation with implants.

When should breast implants be changed?

Modern silicone implants are “long-term”, but not lifelong products. Replacement is recommended if complications develop – e.g. capsular fibrosis, rupture, visible wrinkling or a desire for a different size. Manufacturers often recommend replacing older models after 10-15 years, while newer cohesive gel implants usually only require surgery if there are problems or changes in aesthetics. Regular ultrasound or MRI checks (from year 5, then every 2 years) help to detect silent ruptures at an early stage.

What should I do after changing my breast implants?

Immediately after the implant change, the following applies: elevate the upper body, wear a special bra and chest strap consistently 24 hours a day for 4-6 weeks to minimize swelling and stabilize the implant pockets. Gentle everyday activities are permitted after 48 hours; heavy lifting > 5 kg, sport and overhead movements should be avoided until week 6. Showering is possible from day 1, bathing and sauna only after complete wound healing. Nicotine, alcohol and blood-thinning medication hinder regeneration and should be discontinued. Contact the surgeon immediately in the event of redness, fever or stabbing pain.

Will the change be more complicated than the first operation?

Yes – changing breast implants is technically more demanding because scar capsules, tissue loosening or positional shifts have to be corrected. At BONITAS, precise planning is therefore followed by a precisely coordinated surgical step-by-step plan. Structural pocket corrections and a holistic aftercare schedule minimize the risk of complications and accelerate healing.

Can I choose smaller implants or have them removed completely?

Absolute: When changing implants, you can switch to a smaller volume or remove the implants completely (explantation). A simultaneous breast lift (mastopexy) is often recommended to adjust excess skin. During the consultation, the findings are assessed and an individualized procedure is created – from pocket reduction to fat transfer to implant removal. A personal examination is essential in order to realistically assess feasibility and risks.
